There are many referral sources and agencies that are available in various parts of the country that offer Santas an opportunity to find engagements. Some of them are national; some are focused in a local or regional area. Many of these have either a registration fee, a referral fee for each contract signed, or acts as an employer. For the most part, these do not require exclusive contracts; each Santa can add their own events as well. In some cases, each Santa makes his own agreement with the client; in others, the marketing, event booking and management, and collections are handled by the organization; and in the case of Mall Photo Companies, the Santa is often hired by the hour. It all depends on value-added economics factors. The more support supplied, generally, the lower the pay for the Santa. Even though some Santas do not understand, leads that turn into clients have a cost: time, money, or usually both. Although the list continues to grow (see the sub-menu entries in the main menu), some examples of agencies are: - Real Santas and The Kringle Group (by Santa Tim Connaghan) typically charges a referral fee while handling booking and collections. The fee covers overhead expenses that develop leads.
- Santa Atlanta (Santa Gary Casey) typically pays a significant percentage to the Santa with all company overhead expenses (including extensive marketing expenses) being paid from the amount retained. Employess are paid regardless of the state of collections.
- Santa Claus and Company (Claushimself: Paul Raines) in Phoenix supports extensive overhead and pays Santas, real Elves, and others after overhead expenses are covered.
- Santa For Events (Santa Walter Roach) typically pays a large percentage to Santa while supplying trained companion elves, entertainment elves, marketing for leads and referrals, client booking and coordination.
- Hire A Santa, Santa For Hire, Elite Santas and their other related sites generate the leads and negotiates contracts with clients for Santas that are hired. They are a prime example of value-added services.
- All Time Favorites is a referral agency that asks for a fair referral fee, to be determined by the Santa. All negotiating and booking is the responsibility of the Santa. Their expectations are for 10% or a flat minimum for small contracts.
- Just Be Claus dot Net (Bob Litak) offers the referrals at no cost to client or to Santa who has paid to register; however, all booking contacts are up to the Santa.
Other referral agencies and/or booking agencies either charge a referral fee and the Santa does all booking, or the company takes care of marketing, client contact, collections, etc. When in doubt, then ask. There is a lot of variety across the spectrum, that is directly related to the amount of overhead being absorbed by the company. If a Santa feels completely self-sufficient, then agencies are not as attractive. If a Santa wants more services to be provided, then agencies fill the bill.
In addition to those that are listed here, there are also some free classified ad opportunities. These are of interest to those Santas who either do all or some of their own marketing. Of those, Craig's List, has regional editions, as does Kiijii.
